Roofing Services In Worcester, MA
Eleven services. Start with the symptom, not the service.
Most homeowners do not know whether they need a repair, a replacement, or a ventilation fix. They know what they can see from the driveway or from the ceiling. So start there, and let the roof tell you which service it is. Free documented photo inspection before anyone quotes a number.
What You Are Seeing, and Which Service It Points To
Use this before you call anyone, including us. The left column is what you noticed. The right column is where it usually leads. Every row starts with a documented photo inspection, because the diagnosis is the part that decides the cost.
| What you noticed | What it usually is | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Brown ring on a bedroom ceiling | Step flashing at a wall or chimney, not a hole in the field of the roof | Leaky roof repair |
| Water at the chimney, but only in hard rain from one direction | Failed counterflashing, or a cricket that was never built | Roof repair |
| Ice building at the gutter line every winter | Warm attic melting snow from underneath. Not a shingle problem | Inspection, then ventilation work |
| Black streaks down the north-facing slope | Algae. Cosmetic. It does not shorten the life of the roof | Nothing. We will tell you that |
| Shingles curling or lifting at the edges | End of service life across the plane | New roof installation |
| Granules collecting in the gutters | Shingle wear. Normal late in the roof’s life, a problem early | Inspection to date the roof |
| A soft, spongy spot underfoot on the roof | Rotted decking under the shingles. This one does not get patched | New roof installation |
| Water pooling on the flat rear section of a triple-decker | Drainage or a failed seam in the membrane | Flat roofing |
| Shingles in the yard after a storm | Wind uplift. Document it the same week | Storm damage roof repair |
| Water coming in right now | Active leak. Stabilize first, diagnose after | Emergency roof repair |
| Buying or selling, and the roof is an unknown | Needs a dated record, not an opinion | Roof inspections |
If your symptom is not on this list, call and describe it. We would rather talk you out of an appointment than sell you the wrong service.

New Roof Installation
Full tear-off to the deck, then the complete GAF system: WeatherWatch ice and water leak barrier at the eaves, FeltBuster synthetic underlayment across the whole deck, Pro-Start starter strips, new step and counter-flashing rather than reused, new pipe boots, Timberline HDZ architectural shingles, Cobra ridge vent and Seal-A-Ridge caps. Most standard replacements go on in 1 to 2 days once material is on site.

Roof Install: New Construction & Additions
First roof on a new build, garage, dormer, or addition. We coordinate with your builder, match the existing rooflines and materials, and install to manufacturer spec so the shingle warranty is valid from the first day rather than voided by a detail nobody checked.

Roof Repair
Lifted or missing shingles, failed flashing, cracked pipe boots, chimney leaks, ridge cap damage. We fix the cause rather than the symptom and photograph what we found. When a repair is the better call than a replacement, we say so and put it in writing.

Roof Inspections
Photos of the field, the valleys, the flashing at every wall and chimney, the pipe boots, the ridge, and the eaves, plus the attic side where we can reach it. You get the photos whether or not you hire us. From the ground a roof can look fine. What shows up on the deck is a different story.

Emergency Roof Repair (24/7)
Water coming in right now? Call (617) 631-5435. The line is answered nights, weekends, and during storms. We tarp and stabilize to stop the damage first, then diagnose and schedule the permanent repair once the roof is safe to work on properly.

Storm Damage Roof Repair
Wind, hail, and ice dam damage, photographed and documented for your carrier. We can explain the claim process and meet the adjuster on site. We do not promise an approval, and we will not tell you to file if the damage is not there.

Metal Roofing
Standing seam and metal shingle systems. Metal sheds snow before it can sit and refreeze at the eave, which matters more in Worcester than it does closer to the coast. It costs more up front than asphalt, and it is a longer-horizon decision rather than a like-for-like swap.

Flat Roofing
EPDM rubber and low-slope membrane for the flat rear sections, porch roofs, and dormers that Main South and Vernon Hill triple-deckers are full of. Asphalt shingles need pitch to shed water. Put them on a low slope and the water finds the seams instead.

Leaky Roof Repair
Water runs along the underside of the deck before it drops, so the stain on your ceiling is rarely under the entry point. We trace the path to where the water is actually getting in, fix it once, and show you the photos of what was there.

Skylight Installation & Repair
New skylights set with the manufacturer’s flashing kit and leak barrier, and existing ones re-flashed or replaced during a re-roof. A skylight leaks at the flashing, almost never through the glass, which is why reusing the old kit on a new roof is a false saving.

Commercial Roofing
EPDM and TPO systems, sectional repairs, and scheduled maintenance for storefronts, offices, garages, and multifamily buildings. Documentation a property manager can file, and staging that keeps tenants able to use the building while the work runs.

The NOAA 1991 to 2020 normal for Worcester is 72.9 inches a year, measured at Worcester Regional Airport. February alone normals at 21.2 inches. Worcester has not reached that annual figure in years.
| Calendar year | Snowfall |
|---|---|
| 2020 | 46.4 in |
| 2021 | 51.5 in |
| 2022 | 55.1 in |
| 2023 | 44.9 in |
| 2024 | 49.7 in |
| 2025 | 43.3 in |
| 2026, through 21 August | 67.1 in |
Six straight full calendar years between 43 and 56 inches, against a 72.9 inch normal. Calendar totals split a winter across two years, so they are not a like-for-like swap for the seasonal figure. The direction is still the direction. Source data is NOAA’s climate record for Worcester Regional Airport.
Here is why that does not get anyone off the hook. Ice dams are not caused by snow volume. They are caused by heat escaping into the attic, melting the underside of the snowpack, and that meltwater refreezing when it reaches the cold overhang past the heated envelope. Worcester’s freeze-thaw cycling has not changed. Neither has the housing stock.
Less snow, same heat loss, same freeze-thaw. The dam still forms.
So when a roofing pitch leans on how much snow Worcester gets, it is pointing at the wrong fix. On an older Worcester house the higher-value work is usually the attic: intake ventilation at the soffit, exhaust at the ridge, and insulation that stops the heat before it reaches the deck. That is what makes the next roof last, and it is the item most often missing from a quote.
Wind is the other half, and it is not seasonal. On 20 May 2026 severe thunderstorms tore a section of roof off a National Guard building on North Lake Avenue and dropped it into the road. Worcester Fire ran about a dozen storm calls that night, and a tree came down on a house on Copperfield Road. If your roof took wind in a storm like that, photograph it that week rather than next spring, and start with storm damage roof repair.
The Wind Number Almost No Quote Connects
Worcester carries a 117 mph ultimate design wind speed alongside its 50 psf ground snow load. Both figures sit in Table R301.2(2) of the Massachusetts Residential Code. That is what the structure has to handle.
Shingles are rated separately, and the rating depends entirely on how the roof is built. GAF’s WindProven limited wind warranty carries no maximum wind speed for 15 years, but only when a LayerLock shingle such as Timberline HDZ goes on with four specific GAF accessories: starter strips, roof deck protection, ridge cap shingles, and either a leak barrier or attic ventilation.
Leave one of those four off and the shingle is still a good shingle. It is simply no longer covered under that warranty, and the homeowner usually finds out at the point of filing.
Ask every roofer quoting your Worcester roof to name the accessories in the scope. Not the brand. The four items. If the answer is “we use GAF” with no list, the wind warranty is not being registered on your roof.
When We Tell You Not to Buy
Three situations where we will talk you out of the sale.
The roof still has years left. If what you have is one cracked pipe boot on an otherwise sound roof, that is a repair, not a replacement. You get the photos and our read on how long you have, and you call us when it is actually time.
The problem is not the roof. Algae streaking is cosmetic. Condensation on the underside of the deck is ventilation. Water at a second-floor window head is usually siding or window flashing. We have found all three and told the homeowner to keep their money.
Someone told you insurance will pay and there is no storm damage. We document what is actually up there. If the damage is real we photograph it, hand you the file, and meet the adjuster. We do not promise approvals, we do not use the phrase “free roof,” and we do not touch anybody’s deductible.
We are also not the right fit for a homeowner who only wants the lowest number and does not care what is in it. If one quote sits thousands under another, something is missing from it. Ask what: tear-off or a layover, new flashing or reused, decking priced per sheet or guessed, ridge vent or none, permit pulled by the contractor or pushed onto you, magnetic nail sweep or not. More on who runs Powersol and how we work.
Questions Worcester Homeowners Ask First
Which roofing service do I actually need?
Start with the symptom rather than the service name. A ceiling stain is usually flashing. Ice at the gutter line every winter is an attic problem. Curling shingles are end of service life. The table at the top of this page maps what you noticed to where it goes, and a documented photo inspection settles it before anyone quotes a number.
Is my roof a repair or a replacement?
Repair is right when the damage is confined to one area, the deck underneath is solid, and the shingles still have service life in them. Replacement is right when the deck is soft, when there are already two layers of roofing up there, or when the shingles are worn across the whole roof. We show you the photos and tell you which one you are looking at before we quote.
Why does the stain on my ceiling not line up with the damage on my roof?
Water runs along the underside of the deck and along rafters before it drops through. The entry point is often several feet uphill from the mark on your ceiling. That is why leak work starts by tracing the path rather than patching whatever sits directly above the stain.
Does a Worcester triple-decker need shingles or a membrane?
Usually both. Most have a pitched front section and a flat or low-slope rear section. Shingles need pitch to shed water, so the low-slope portion needs a membrane system instead. A quote that covers the whole building in shingles was written by somebody who did not go up there.
My roof lost shingles in a storm. What should I do first?
Photograph it the same week, from the ground and from any window with a view of the roof. Damage documented close to the event date is far easier to attribute to that storm. Then get a documented inspection. We photograph what is there and hand you the file, and we will not tell you to file a claim on a roof that simply got old.
Worcester has had less snow lately. Does that mean fewer ice dams?
No. Ice dams come from heat escaping into the attic and refreezing at the cold overhang, not from how much snow falls. The NOAA 1991 to 2020 normal is 72.9 inches, and every full calendar year from 2020 through 2025 came in between 43.3 and 55.1 inches. The totals dropped and the freeze-thaw cycling did not, so the attic is still where the fix is.
What wind speed does a Worcester roof have to be built for?
Table R301.2(2) of the Massachusetts Residential Code sets Worcester at a 117 mph ultimate design wind speed, alongside a 50 psf ground snow load. Shingle wind coverage is a separate manufacturer rating and depends on which accessories are installed with the shingle.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most standard replacements go on in 1 to 2 days once material is on site and the weather holds. Our average is about 1 day. Triple-deckers and roofs with flat sections take longer. We will not guarantee a date that weather can move.
Where We Work in Worcester
All 11 services run wherever our Worcester roofers work, across the city and the towns around it. The housing changes a lot between neighborhoods, and so does the work.
Main South, Vernon Hill and the streets around them are dense triple-decker stock, which usually means a pitched front section and a flat or low-slope rear section on the same building. That is two roof systems on one job, and it is the most common reason a quote written from an aerial photo turns out to be wrong. The West Side, Tatnuck and Grafton Hill run to older single-family and Victorian roofs with cut-up planes, deep eaves and more valleys, where the ice barrier distance matters more than the shingle does.
