New Roof Installation

In Quincy, MA — built for New England.

Full tear-off, ice and water shield per Massachusetts code, balanced ventilation, and premium architectural shingles, installed by a local licensed crew and backed by a 25-year guarantee.

Why it matters here

A Quincy roof does a harder job than almost anywhere.

In a single year, a roof in Quincy will be soaked by nor’easters, loaded with heavy wet snow, frozen and thawed dozens of times, and raked by coastal wind that finds any shingle that was not fastened correctly. The installation that passes for acceptable in a milder climate fails early here, and it usually fails quietly: a lifted shingle edge, a hairline gap at the flashing, a warm attic melting snow that refreezes into an ice dam at the gutter line. By the time a stain shows up on the ceiling, water has often been traveling inside the roof for months.

That is why we treat a new roof as a weather system rather than a shingle delivery. Every Powersol Roofing installation is designed around the specific ways New England destroys roofs: water backing up under ice, rain pushing sideways in the wind, and moisture condensing inside poorly vented attics. Each layer of the system exists to stop one of those failure modes.

And if the photos say a repair will solve your problem, we tell you that, even when a replacement would pay us more.

What’s in the system

Seven layers, one job: keep water out.

This is what “new roof” means on a Powersol Roofing estimate. If a quote you are comparing does not mention these, ask where they went.

01

Full tear-off & disposal

Every old shingle comes off, down to bare wood. Installing over old layers hides rot, voids most material warranties, and adds weight the framing was never asked to carry. We handle the permit, the dumpster, and the disposal.

02

Decking inspection & repair

With the roof stripped, we walk every sheet of plywood. Soft or delaminated decking is photographed, shown to you, and replaced at the per-sheet price already written in your estimate, so mid-job discoveries never become surprise bills.

03

Ice & water shield

A self-sealing membrane bonded directly to the deck at the eaves, in the valleys, and around every penetration. Massachusetts code requires ice barrier at the eaves because ice dams push water uphill, under shingles, where gravity-based roofing stops working.

04

Synthetic underlayment

Across the rest of the deck, a modern water-shedding membrane replaces old-style felt paper. It is tougher, lighter, and far less likely to tear in the wind while the roof is being loaded and installed.

05

Drip edge & flashing

New metal drip edge at every eave and rake, and new flashing at chimneys, sidewalls, and skylights. Most “shingle leaks” we get called about are actually failed flashing, which is why we never reuse the old metal.

06

Balanced ventilation

Ridge and soffit vents sized to each other so air actually moves through the attic. A cold, dry attic is the real long-term cure for ice dams, and it keeps shingles from cooking from below in the summer.

07

Architectural shingles

Premium shingle systems installed to manufacturer spec: correct nail count, correct nail line, correct exposure. That keeps the material warranty valid from day one, and it is the difference between a roof that survives a nor’easter and one that sheds tabs.

Do you actually need one?

Eight signs your roof is telling you something.

None of these alone means you need a replacement tomorrow. Two or three together mean it is time for a documented inspection.

Curling or cupped shinglesEdges lifting off the roof plane mean the shingles have dried out and lost their seal against wind.
Granules in the guttersA steady wash of gritty granules means the shingles’ protective surface is wearing away.
Missing shingles after stormsIf every windy weekend costs you tabs, the adhesive seal has failed roof-wide, not just in one spot.
Ceiling stains that come and goStains that appear after wind-driven rain or a thaw usually mean water is finding a path under the shingles.
Ice dams every winterRecurring ice at the gutter line points to heat escaping through the roof, a ventilation problem a new roof can fix.
Daylight in the atticPinholes of light through the roof boards are open water paths. Check on the next sunny day.
A sagging rooflineVisible dips between rafters suggest the decking has softened. This one should be looked at promptly.
The neighbors are re-roofingHomes on a street were often roofed the same year. When the street starts replacing, yours is aging on the same clock.

Local & accountable

We’re here after the storm chasers leave.

After every major nor’easter, out-of-state crews sweep through Massachusetts neighborhoods knocking on doors. Some do fine work. But when a warranty question comes up two winters later, the truck, the phone number, and the company are gone.

Powersol Roofing is the opposite bet. We are a Quincy company at 100 Hancock St, and the phone gets answered nights, weekends, and during nor’easters. More than five hundred Massachusetts homeowners have made that bet with us across a thousand-plus projects.

Nor’easter windShingles rated and fastened for coastal gusts, with correct nail count and placement on every course.
Ice damsIce and water shield at the eaves and balanced ventilation that keeps the roof deck cold and dry.
Wind-driven rainSealed valleys, fresh flashing, and drip edge at every eave and rake, where sideways rain gets in.

The process

Five steps, one point of contact, zero surprises.

1

Free inspection & itemized estimate

We walk the roof, photograph what we find, and price every layer in writing: tear-off, decking, membrane, flashing, ventilation, shingles, cleanup. You see the whole number before anyone climbs a ladder with tools.

2

Honest recommendation

Replacement or repair, we tell you which one the photos support. A small repair now can prevent a much bigger replacement later, and steering you right today is how we earn the replacement when its time actually comes.

3

Materials, color & scheduling

You choose the shingle line and color, and we pull the permit, order materials, and set the date. We tell you exactly how to prepare: where the dumpster sits, what to take off the walls, and what the day will sound like.

4

Installation day

Tear-off, decking repairs, ice and water shield, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, and shingles, installed to manufacturer spec by our own trained crew. Most Quincy homes are completed in one to two days.

5

Cleanup, walkthrough & warranty

Magnetic nail sweep across the lawn and driveway, full debris haul-away, and a final walkthrough with you. You keep the photo record and your warranty paperwork: our 25-year guarantee plus the manufacturer’s coverage, both in writing.

Straight answers

New roof questions, answered.

Do I need a full tear-off, or can you install over my old shingles?

We recommend a full tear-off. It lets us inspect the decking, install ice and water shield directly on the deck, and give you a roof with a valid manufacturer warranty. Massachusetts code also limits how many layers a roof can carry, so many homes are required to tear off anyway.

What is included in a Powersol Roofing installation?

Tear-off and disposal, decking inspection, ice and water shield at the eaves per MA code, synthetic underlayment, drip edge, flashing, ridge ventilation, premium architectural shingles, magnetic nail sweep, and full cleanup. Everything is itemized in your free estimate before work starts.

Is a new roof covered by a warranty?

Yes. New roofs installed by Powersol Roofing are backed by our 25-year guarantee plus the manufacturer’s warranty on materials. Both are explained in writing with your estimate.

Will a new roof help with ice dams?

A properly installed roof is the best long-term defense. Ice and water shield at the eaves protects the deck when ice does form, and balanced ridge and soffit ventilation keeps the roof surface cold so melt-and-refreeze cycles are far less likely to start.

Do you handle permits and disposal?

Yes. We handle the building permit, the dumpster, the tear-off disposal, and the final magnetic nail sweep. You should not have to manage anything except choosing your shingle color.

How do I know if I need a new roof or just a repair?

Ask for an inspection. We document the roof with photos and tell you honestly which one you are looking at. If a repair solves it, we say so, even when a replacement would pay us more.
